MDC South Hartford Conveyance & Storage Tunnel
Zuvic Carr assisted AECOM with design documents for the Metropolitan District (MDC) South Hartford Conveyance and Storage Tunnel (SHCST), which is part of MDC’s Clean Water Project. The SHCST will be an 18-foot diameter deep rock tunnel, 200 feet below the surface, that will link MDC member communities with the Hartford Water Pollution Control Facility. View video

Replacement of Bridge No. 068013
Zuvic Carr was selected by the Town of Woodbury to design a replacement for Middle Quarter Road Bridge over South Brook and associated roadway improvements. Contract drawings, specifications, quantity estimates, and cost estimates are being prepared in accordance with the Connecticut Department of Transportation State Local Bridge Program.

Rehabilitation of Bridge No. 02114
Zuvic Carr prepared contract documents for the rehabilitation of the I-691 Bridge over Amtrak Yard and State Street in Meriden. The 426-foot bridge is a five-span structure built in 1970. It consists of prestressed concrete I-beams with a reinforced concrete deck supported by reinforced concrete abutments and piers.

Zuvic Carr prepared contract documents for the rehabilitation of the Ridge Road Bridge in Wethersfield. The existing 96-foot bridge, built in 1942, is a two-span cast-in-place concrete rigid frame structure.

Zuvic Carr designed a major rehabilitation of two bridges at the Metropolitan District (MDC) Water Filtration site in West Hartford. The work was performed for GZA GeoEnvironmental as part of an ongoing MDC Contract (2011-23).

Zuvic Carr prepared contract documents for the replacement of the Route 74 Bridge over Hockanum River in Vernon. The original bridge was a dual cell corrugated metal pipe arch structure built in 1955 that carried two lanes of traffic over the River.
Rehabilitation of Bridge No. 02719
 
Replacement of Bridge No. 02719
Zuvic Carr prepared contract documents for the replacement of the Route 147 Bridge over Lyman Meadow Brook in Middlefield. The 13-foot bridge was a single span structure built in 1920. It consisted of a cast-in-place concrete slab supported by stone masonry abutments.

Zuvic Carr completed the design and construction administration for ±1,800 linear feet of public roadway rehabilitation, including the oversight of traffic counts and a detailed pavement condition investigation.
 


Environmental Engineering

MDC South Hartford Conveyance & Storage Tunnel
 
MDC South Hartford Conveyance & Storage Tunnel – QEP
Zuvic Carr is providing environmental consulting and engineering for the MDC South Hartford Conveyance and Storage Tunnel project, including Qualified Environmental Professional services, preparation of Soil, Tunnel Muck and Water Management Plans, preparation of a storm water pollution control plan and permit, and periodic sampling for compliance and soil disposal.
 
MDC South Hartford Conveyance & Storage Tunnel PCBs MDC South Hartford Conveyance & Storage Tunnel – PCBs
Zuvic Carr provided environmental engineering associated with PCBs for the MDC South Hartford Conveyance and Storage Tunnel project. Some of the soil fill at the tunnel launch shaft site contained PCBs and was subject to the requirements of TSCA. Up to 15 feet of soil over a 4 acre area required removal for construction. Zuvic Carr completed investigations, Notification of Cleanup, and verification sampling.

Pathways Academy for the Advancement of Design and Technology
Zuvic Carr provided professional environmental consulting and Licensed Environmental Professional (LEP) services in connection with the construction of a magnet school located on 4.5 acres of a former industrial property. The site was subject to the CT Transfer Act.
MDC Wet Weather Expansion
 
Metropolitan District Wet Weather Expansion Project
Zuvic Carr assisted ARCADIS U.S. on the Metropolitan District Wet Weather Expansion Project. The purpose of this $350M project is to design new influent, primary, and wet weather treatment facilities at the Hartford Water Pollution Control Facility.

Zuvic Carr and its subcontractor completed an asbestos and lead paint survey of housing for elderly citizens maintained by the Rocky Hill Housing Authority.
